A full week of work and courses leaves me ready to rest and let go once the weekend strikes. But we all know that the chance of me getting a weekend full of spa like therapy and peace and quiet is not really probable. Even when I have a rest from work I find myself burdened with chores and errands, house cleaning, and other tasks I’ve been putting off. Even though I may be able to talk someone into giving me a five minute back rub, I don’t think I’ll have time for a manicure and a massage. In our world where we live such fast paced lives, it is almost impossible to sneak away for an hour or two let alone a full day to just put aside our crazy lives and spend a little ‘me’ time. Where I can perhaps fit in a chiropractor’s appointment or a waxing appointment once a month, it’s never enough to make me feel as if I’ve actually spoiled myself. When an occasion or a birthday comes along and someone asks me what I want, the first thing that I think of is “money” or “a new can opener.” Even though these might be reasonable gifts, they are essentials and buying these essentials doesn’t take much sympathy. A present should be something you want, not a thing you need. Sometimes we forget our own worth and we need a friend to come in and remind us to take some time for our self. A gift should encourage you to take care of yourself, not help you run yourself further into the ground. Although I can say I wouldn’t have much free time to arrange a spa appointment even if I was given a gift card, I have a few home remedies that will do the trick almost as well.
