Spring Means Mother's Day is Coming Soon

Celebrate
If you have been watching the calendar you know that Mother’s day is right around the corner. Mother's Day is this Sunday , May 9th, 2010, which means that you still have time to find the ideal gift for Mom. Perhaps you are looking to buying for your wife if you have children that most wonderful gift to thank her for being such a grand Mother.

The origin of Mother’s day goes back to 1907 when Anna M. Jarvis, a Philadelphia school teacher (1864-1948), began a movement to set up a national Mother's Day in honor of her mother, Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis. She requested the help of hundreds of legislators and well-known businessmen to form a special day to honor all mothers. The first Mother's Day celebration was a church service honoring Anna's mother. Anna handed out her mother's favorite flowers, the white carnations, on the occasion as they epitomize sweetness, purity, and patience. Anna's hard work finally paid off in the year 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as a national holiday in honor of mothers.

This year is expected to be the leading in terms of those opting to shop online for mothers day. Scores of people live a vast distance from their mother so shopping online makes greatest sense. Another reason is the selection is perfect and the convenience is hard to beat.

Research in 2006 concluded that 35% of the adult population chose chocolates and spa bath products to send to their mothers for Mothers Day as the most popular gift, above flowers and plants, by a good margin. I think that is has to do with the economic down turn and the desire to give mom something that will last and that gives her some additional pleasure. There are some wonderful dark chocolates and healthy snack out there that don’t come with too many calories and contain some extra health benefits.

With that in mind we have made some suggestions below to assist with Mothers Day and help you chose what to buy that special mother in your life on the one day of the year specifically for your Mother where you can thank her and show her you care.

Consider sending a healthy food gift, a relaxation gift basket, gourmet chocolate gift basket, Mother’s day Spa gift basket, Cabernet red wine basket, Riesling wine gift baskets. Wishing all the Mothers around the world a happy Mother’s Day 2010 on Sunday!
